Comic Con: Day 3 – Snow White and the Huntsman

They haven’t even started filming.

I didn’t know it was even possible to conduct a panel when not a single shot having yet to be filmed. Filming only starts a few days after the panel. Most film panels would preview a trailer, or selected scenes.

So what did Snow White present? the first images of the cast as their characters with Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the Queen, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman and Sam Claflin as the Prince.

SW Kristen
Judging by the images, the treatment of the film is not going to be a live action Disney-esque re-telling of this classic film which is interesting as next year another film based on Snow White will be released which is more kid friendly and reminiscent of the Disney classic.

SW Full
This film is more darker and action packed with a similar tone to the recently released and poorly received Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried. During the panel, the character of Snow White had comparisons to Joan of Arc as a strong and fearless woman, rather than the damsel in distress.

SW KristenWhat stood out to me during the panel was Kristen’s behaviour, it was refreshing to see someone so famous act somewhat normal by being uncomfortable on stage in front of a large audience. Kristen is awkward, eloquent, serious and looks like she’d rather not be in the centre of attention. It’s even more obvious compared to the demeanour of Charlize a seasoned actress who is polished, charismatic and playful.

Chris Hemsworth still has a 100% Aussie accent with no hint of a American twang, which was refreshing and it became evident quickly that the ladies love Thor.

SW CharlizeDuring the Q & A, unsurprisingly there were a lot of Kristen/Twilight fans. The mic was actually cut off when someone asked her “Can I have….”, it turns out she just wanted the paper name tag with Kirsten joking she could try to make a paper plane and send it to her that way.

With the unique interpretation and the beautiful yet dark tone of the costumes, as well as the all star cast the film looks promising.
