Comic Con: Day 4 – Glee and Supernatural

The last day of Comic Con, the morning started off by lining up 3 hours in advance to make sure I could get inside Hall H in the first place for the first panel Glee later followed by surprisingly popular Doctor Who in the US!

Day 4 audience
Sunday is the quietest day for Comic Con, as the attendee numbers have obviously dwindled yet it’s still packed but it’s nice to gain the slight availability of personal space.

What was disappointing is that they obviously removed seating in Hall H. While the audience numbers dwindled after Doctor Who, I’m sure many fans missed out because of the lack of seating!

No Rachel Berry. No Finn Hudson.
No Kurt Hummel. No Mercedes Jones.
No Quinn Fabray. No Noah Puckerman.
No Brittany S. Pierce. No Santana Lopez. No Artie Abrams.
No Mr Shue. No Sue Sylvester.
So at this point you may be wondering, did ANY of the cast attend?

Glee Close
Well yes, Darren Criss (Blaine), Harry Shum Jr (Mike Chang), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina Cohen-Chang) and Dot-Marie Jones (Coach Bieste) it was fantastic having them on the panel but disappointing at the same time considering how large the cast really is.

Glee Far
The Glee cast have done an international tour (which doesn’t include Australia)  performing in arenas some of the fan favourites from the show. One of the concerts has been filmed and made into Glee: The 3D Concert Movie in a similar vein to Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. All of which have a similar target audience, except Glee caters towards an older crowd.

We were shown previews from the film with a clip of Glee fans expressing their love for the character Brittany S. Pierce (Heather Morris) which neatly segwayed into her performance of Britney Spears’ “I’m A Slave For You.” Even though it’s not exactly a secret that Heather Morris can really dance as demonstrated on the show, it’s clearly evident ‘live.’

Another clip was shown of a mini Warbler, a young boy who dresses and emulates the Warblers on screen which is just as adorable as it sounds which of course naturally segwayed to Darren Criss’ cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” with his fellow Warblers on stage.

If you’re not a fan of the show, it’s safe to assume you won’t be rushing out to see it in the cinema! But those who didn’t get to catch the show live (or didn’t even know it existed) it’s worth your while if you’re a big Glee fan.

Glee Close Cast
There’s a bit of buzz surrounding what’s going on with the cast as they will be seemingly all graduating in the upcoming season. It was pointed out during the panel that some of the cast are actually juniors (our version would be 11th grade). But it wasn’t confirmed who was staying, or who could be leaving the show.

They touched on the reality show the Glee Project, a competition to select the next cast member for Glee. The winner has been chosen, but the episode has yet to actually air! So the panel managed to talk about the show without actually giving any spoilers away with the ‘token’ rave about how great the contestants are, so nothing new here. FYI my personal favourites are Damien McGlinty and Cameron Mitchell.

The Q & A kicked off with a very specific question for Darren Criss regarding his solo career and he was simply just flattered someone actually knew his solo work. Which was just the beginning of Darren specific questions which touched on his promotion to the main cast, more of Blaine’s back story,  as well as Blaine and Kurt’s relationship.

For the rest of the panel it was covered the involvement of a deaf chorus on the show, favourite couples on the show, and Kurt and Rachel’s possible spin-off (it’s not happening).

Glee airs on Channel Ten

At this point I was pretty tired from getting up early to queue but soon snapped out of it my the screams of fan girls. There were a LOT of fan girls of all ages.

The screams were obviously for the 2 leads Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles who play the brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. As well as Misha Collins (Castiel).

Supernatural Jared Jensen
The panel discussed Jensen and Jared’s dynamic when Jensen has been directing (he’s done it twice).

Supernatural will soon be airing it’s 7th season in the US, so who knows when it’ll end up airing in Australia.

Supernatural Full 2
The preview for the anime Supernatural was shown, and it’s is fantastic that a mainstream show is taking a risk by going down the animated route especially while the show is currently airing! Judging by the reaction of the hard core fans in the audience they were pretty impressed too.

Supernatural Full

The bloopers form the 6th season DVD was shown, with the fan girls lapping up every ‘natural’ moment form the cast.

Supernatural airs on Channel Ten.
