Comic Con: The Signings

At Comic Con there are always a number of signings going on which vary from popular TV shows, authors, illustrators, Playboy models to of course comic artists.
Some signings are organised to make you jump through hoops just to get the chance, or simply being at the right place at the right time.

The Hoops

The Fox and WB booths were the major drawcards for the major signings such as The Big Bang Theory, Wilfred and Glee.
The always packed Fox booth

Typically to get access you would have to get to the booth early to get a raffle ticket which gives you the CHANCE to actually attend the signing. Sometimes these tickets are distributed at the booth, near the booth or at a completely different location!

However, in terms of scheduling, the chances are if your able to go to the signing you won’t make it to the panel and vice versa.

Napoleon Dynamite Signing

The first day of Comic Con, I pre-planned my chance to attend the Napoleon Dynamite signing at the Fox booth. As it was the first signing on the first day of Comic Con there were pretty good odds of getting one of the 70 odd golden tickets.

In case your thinking, hey Napoleon Dynamite the movie was released years ago, why are they there? well it has now been reincarnated as an animated series!

The sign for the line to initially get the raffle ticket, then for the winners to await their fate.

Then once the signing is on, it’s chaos! Everyone’s squeezing their way in to catch a glimpse while the staff try to contain everyone.

The cast were lovely and happy to take pictures as well as sign!

Robot Chicken Signing

The Robot Chicken signing was at the Adult Swim booth and was simply first come first served to get a ticket, then coming back to the booth during the designated time.

Seth Green (Buffy, Austin Powers) was by far my favourite celebrity to meet. He definitely went over and above when interacting with fans. He took the time to chat, take goofy photos and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there.

The Luck

This involves simply being at the right place at the right time!

But it definitely helps keeping your eyes peeled and in some cases it does pay off being the nice guy/gal! So of course be nice to the people working the booths (it may be tiring dealing with overeager nerds!) and your fellow attendees. How does this pay off? for instance you know can soon figure out if it’s worth queuing for or in some cases they may just squeeze you into the line.

2 Broke Girls

Happened to stumble upon the WB booth at the right time, and was able to be the lucky last punter to be in the queue for the 2 Broke Girls signing.

2 Broke Girls is yet to air but it is a sitcom which stars Kat Dennings (Charlie Bartlett, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) and Beth Behrs.

Phineas and Ferb

Saw a line beginning to build, and it was simply just join the queue for the Disney animated series Phineas and Ferb signing, which stars Vincent Martella, Ashley Tisdale, Dee Bradley Baker and Olivia Olson.

The Round Up:
  • There are always signings going on!
  • Keep your eyes peeled especially on the floor and don’t be afraid to nicely talk to whoever is willing to point you in the right direction.
  • If you want to try to pre-plan look at the Comic Con daily guide, visit the relevant booth, the Comic Con website as well Comic Con fan sites.
