IMATS Sydney 2012 Overview: Shopping and Speakers

IMATS Sydney 2012 SignIMATS, the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show was held in Sydney at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre on September 29 and 30.

While I am sure most attendees there were excited about the exhibitors who were selling a vast array of make-up goodies with a mixture of everyday beauty to the more extreme look of costume and body make-up.

IMATS also featured speakers, demonstrations and my personal favourite the Student competitions dubbed the “Battle of the Brushes ” in the categories of Beauty/Fantasy and Character/Prosthetic.

Speakers

IMATS Sydney 2012 (4)
M.A.C. Pro presents Natasha Severino - Editorial Beauty.

For me personally, Natasha is most infamous for being the Makeup director for Romance Was Born’s SS 2012/13 collection inspired by Marvel Comics.

Some tips I picked up were:
  • Natasha loves using the Face & Body Foundation used to even out skin tone. She uses a sponge, and recommended to press foundation into the skin instead of wiping (as this simply moves the foundation around).

  • Her tip for curling eyelashes is to place the eye curler at the root of the lashes and hold for 3 seconds, then move midway and finally the tips of the lashes. As by pressing out it results in a nice curl instead of a right angle.
  •  When it comes to blending, it is best to blend up and out generally as it pulls the face up.
  • To find your cheekbone, it is between the middle of your ear to the edge of the lip.

Make-Up Artist magazine presents Thomas Surprenant - Klingon Warriors.

Thomas is a infamous make-up artist who has an extensive portfolio of work in the realm of film and TV. His talk was scheduled for an hour, and it was amazing to watch the transformation through the use of prosthetic during that time!

Royal & Langnickel VIP Lounge

Members of the media were treated to a ‘royal' treatment of manicures and massages at the Royal & Langnickel VIP Lounge.

To be honest, I have never heard of Royal & Langnickel until IMATS (but then again, there are a lot of brands that I had not heard of). In the Lounge we were introduced to the [R]evolution Collection which is a collaboration with makeup artist Kevin James Bennett. I was lucky to be gifted with the [R]evolution brush BX-80.

After having a browse, and of course adding a several products to my wish list I was pleasantly surprised that these brushes were actually quite affordable at IMATS.

Inside the lounge, I got to meet some of the delegates for Beauty Blogger’s Utopia, pictured here is Celeste and Miss Kitty Charms.
