Jurassic Lounge: The Halloween Special

Jurassic Lounge at Australian Museum- Halloween 2012 (1)
Ever wanted to spend a night at the museum? (Yes, like the movie)

Well the Jurassic Lounge events held at the Australian Museum in Sydney will be the closest I will ever get to that.

The night I attended (October 30, 2012) marked the last Jurassic Lounge for 2012, with the theme of Halloween. The Jurassic Lounge runs throughout selected Tuesday nights throughout the year with a distinct theme with previous themes including Animania and Same Same.

This being my first visit to the Jurassic Lounge AND the Australian Museum, it was very surreal walking into the building with really no clue what to expect. Pretty much think of a museum transformed into a cool, unpretentious yet educational hangout filled with Gen Y-ers (over-18s event).

The night consisted of burlesque, arts and crafts for Halloween headwear, face painting, dance floor, games, costume competition and more.

Unfortunately, I could not catch all of what I wanted to see as I had to head over to the Roberto Cavalli for Target - Blogger preview event and actually missed on seeing my true love – the costume competition!

Even though the event had a lot of people, you could still breathe depending on which area of the museum you were in, in case you did not know I do enjoy my personal space... especially on a Tuesday night. The most congested area was unsurprisingly during the main forms of entertainment being held at the Atrium Stage.

Overall, I really enjoyed the event it is such a unique location, the price is affordable, numerous activities going on simultaneously (compared to a normal bar/club at least!) and yes I would love to go again (kicking myself for missing out on the Animania theme!).

The Costumes…

Since the theme was Halloween, dressing up was obviously encouraged however, since it was a Tuesday night the dress code consisted of an interesting mix of dress ups, casual and suits. Even though I missed out on the Costume Competition, just walking around there were snap worthy costumes.

How creepy is the background? I swear I did not even see it till after I took the photo… spooky.

The Burlesque

Unfortunately the only act I could catch on the main stage was Frankie Faux. Fortunately, as you can see she was very entertaining.

The Museum

The museum itself was transformed to be Halloween friendly, mixed in with the 'existing' dinosaurs and taxidermy which in itself is a little bit creepy!
