Leroy Nguyen was one of the most anticipated designers to show as part of The Innovators at MBFWA which consists of the cream of the crop from the Fashion Design Studio.
I was first introduced to Leroy’s designs thanks to his involvement with Australian Graduates Fashion Week where he placed second.
"Candy Shop” marks his second collection which is literally influenced by candy… rather than the double entendre filled Fiddy Cent version. I am already starting to understand more of his signature which includes distinctive prints, solid colour and exaggerated shapes. This is also due to some of the pieces from his graduate collection being re-incarnated into a more colourful version featuring bold bright colours and swirls…. a stark contrast of the neutral colours used in his graduate collection.
One of my favourite things about the “Candy Shop” collection is the attention to detail – in this case it is all about the lining which offers a welcome pop of colour and contrast to the outfit.
See it for yourself…
