Ah yes, that time of the year!
Supanova is a unique convention as it actually has conventions across most of Australia (except for TAS and ACT).
I went to the most convenient which is of course my hood, Sydney.
Each Saturday of the Supanova convention they host the Madman National Cosplay Championship with heats in each state with each winner competing for the title of being the National Cosplay Champion.
This competition is pretty much for those that take their cosplay very seriously. This includes highly detailed and creative costumes and props to bring their geeky fandom to life. Bonus points if you’re covered head to toe, have obscured vision, very uncomfortable and have limited mobility.
Let’s start with the Sydney winner…
Frieza from Dragon Ball ZWhat’s better than an effeminate villain?
One that LOVES musicals! I was very impressed to see the Dragon Ball Z interpretation of 'Gay or European' from one of my favourite musicals.. Legally Blonde!
Anna Linsley clearly won because it was a unique skit, highly entertaining and of course, the costume was amazing!
Evangelion Unit 05 from EVA 2.22Now second place…
Remember my comment about head to toe costumes, with limited mobility? Well this cosplay clearly ticks those boxes… plus he lights up!
Macross FrontierHonestly, I could not figure out who these characters are…
But just enjoy the colourful, girly costumes and even an outfit change... and this was all during the musical number, 'Unpretty' by TLC the Glee version.
Not only did they place third, there was also a proposal!
Dante vs. Cerberus from Devil May Cry
Kiba the Dark Knight from Garo: Makai Senki
Just because you don't take part in this competition, doesn't make the cosplay on the floor any less entertaining! More cosplay coverage coming soon here.
I attended Supanova as a media guest.
