Shock horror! The Miss Australia National Costume Competition came and went. Thanks to Face of Australia, I was invited to attend the official media launch to unveil the winner!
This competition is typically filled with over the top costumes (think Toddlers and Tiaras in adult form) along with the token "I can't believe THAT won" comments... so brace yourself.
The winning costume was chosen by the Australian public to be worn by Miss Australia 2013, Olivia Wells to the Miss Universe Competition 2013, so if you don't like it you can only blame yourself.
So let's see which design won?
The winning costume was by Jason Dean Chetcuti who was inspired by Aussie beaches.
There were also 3 other viable competitors to vie for the opportunity to grace the Miss Universe stage.
With a (fake) Cockatoo in hand, this costume by Helani Uttara Sarath-Kumara was inspired by the iconic Aussie poem ‘My Country’ by Dorothea Mackellar with these words, “I love a sunburnt country…”
The clear inspiration for this costume by Brandon Lawrence Beazley was the wattle which also features our iconic Aussie colours of green and yellow.
I initially thought 50 Shades of Grey... fortunately, I was wrong. Joseph Allinson was inspired by Australia's less than spectacular history, to demonstrate his vision of human rights and equality.
The Evening Gown
This dress is by Paolo Sebastian, and it is amazing. Absolutely flattering and the level of detail in the embellishments is perfection - can you tell I'm a fan?
It's practically tradition now that I end a post with the not-at-all relevant food shot from the event.
Thank you to Face of Australia for having me as a media guest.
